Camera – My Journey from Point & Shoot to DSLR
Point & Shoot Experience:
I bought my first Point & Shoot camera in the year 2012, It was a Sony DSC-HX10V point & Shoot camera with 16x optical zoom and 32x digital zoom. 18MP resolution and some really cool preset features.
It all started with taking photos of my wife, sunsets, flowers, plants in the balcony garden, and moments of Indian festivals sometimes streets with a view, and so on. I loved the camera so much that it became a routine to carry it everywhere I go (Just like a mobile phone) and there was no problem as such because of its small size which fits in my pocket really well.
Gradually started taking pictures of birds maybe somewhere in the 2017-18 time frame and this kicked off my passion for photography to the next level. No zoom is enough when it comes to bird and wildlife photography and my desire to go closer to birds grew more and more.
Ended up buying another Point & Shoot 🙂 Nikon this time Nikon B500, With 16MP resolution, 40x Optical Zoom, and 80x digital zoom. It gave me a completely different experience and started to get better close-ups and it enhanced the reach to a great extent.
But it never stopped me to think for another gear reason being Sony camera – yes extremely fast autofocus, nice picture quality but lacks the zoom I was looking for. Nikon camera – again great zoom, very good picture quality but lacks autofocus capability as compared to sony, specifically while taking shots at 40x or 80x, which is quite obvious I can understand.
Enjoyed taking birds and wildlife so much it became my passion to out and capture everything. check out my photos in Instagram @trevelukb

Transition to DSLR:
Finally got my first DSLR which is again Nikon D5600 with 18-72mm & 70-300mm kit lenses. This was definitely one of the most difficult purchase for me as I didn’t want to spend a fortune for satisfying my hobby at the same time didn’t want to kill it 🙂 There were so many options especially when mirrorless cameras are picking up the pace and trends are moving more towards it. Small, sleek, fast autofocus, and great picture quality and at an affordable price with basic kit lenses. But for birds and wildlife basic kit lens fills a very small gap. And zoom lenses for these cameras are way expensive. Nevertheless, after a lot of research and reviews bought the Nikon D5600 and I am not at all regretting this decision and it proves to be meeting or exceeding all my expectations. 70-300 mm lens is OK enough for covering a substantial distance. Also if the shots are taken with proper adjustments you can crop it significantly and still get good quality.
Experience:
It’s been over 6 months I am using DSLR but even now when it comes to taking videos my choice is still Nikon B500 🙂
All said and experienced I feel all types of cameras have their own value and it fulfills certain needs which a person can define. It’s a purely individual choice what they want to do with the camera. Someone wants to make use of it or just for show off its all depends 🙂
Overall my journey so far is really good by my craving for camera gear is no over yet, looking out to add some more zoom power to my DSLR and improve the reach. have a couple of lenses in mind like Nikon 200 – 500, Sigma 150-600, Sigma 18-600 sports are some of the shortlists. Waiting for the right deal to grab 🙂
